Mali war crimes: Former leader of Al Qaeda-linked group sentenced

The International Criminal Court has sentenced Al Hassan Ag Abdoul Aziz, the former leader of a Malian armed group, to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty of orchestrating what judges described as a “reign of terror” in Timbuktu during 2012. Al Hassan served as the police chief for an al-Qaeda-affiliated group after it took control of the region.
